Manchester United secured a vital victory against Liverpool last night, to restore some faith following their less-than-convincing start to the season.
Their 1-0 win in the League Cup came courtesy of a 46th-minute strike from Javier Hernandez, and with the likes of Jonny Evans in great form at the back, a single goal proved enough as David Moyes’ side ruined Luis Suarez’s long-awaited return to the Reds’ first-team.
Speaking after the match Moyes said he would ultimately get it right at Old Trafford, following an introduction that has seen him take just one point from three league matches against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
“I will fix it. I will turn it around,” he said. “I have no doubt about that.”
And while he has a long way to go, last night’s result was a step in the right direction.
Another man with a way to go yet is Shinji Kagawa, with Moyes speaking after the game about the Japanese playmaker’s form and future.
“He did okay,” Moyes said. “I thought he grew into the game a little bit more.
“There were bits which I was pleased with, and bits where we were looking for a little bit more. Overall he’s still getting back.”
And finally, teenage defender Reece James has returned early from his loan spell at Carlisle United.
The 19-year-old initially signed until January, but after sustaining an injury in just his second match and working his way back to match fitness, the decision has been made to end the agreement by mutual consent.
