Update on Forrest and other injuries, Commons look ahead to Barca - Celtic morning news

Fitness updates ahead of Celtic's SPL clash with Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Celtic winger James Forrest has suffered a relapse of a respiratory virus that could rule him out of next week’s Champions League clash with Barcelona according to the Evening Times.

Forrest hasn’t played since scoring the winner against Shakhtar Karagandy which took Celtic into the group stage and manager Neil Lennon said the player had failed to make an appointment to undergo tests on the illness – but he didn’t need to be readmitted to hospital.

Lennon said: ‘I don’t know where we’re at with him at the moment.

‘We are hoping he will be feeling a little perkier over the next couple of days.’

The Celtic boss also has fitness concerns over midfielder Joe Ledley and Beram Kyal – and will start with the more experienced players he left out of the midweek cup loss to Morton when they play Kilmarnock at Rugby Park at the weekend.

One of those players will be Kris Commons who has been talking to Celtic View about the upcoming Champions League clash with Barcelona, and Commons thinks there is less pressure on the Hoops after last year’s heroics at Parkhead.

He said: ‘We’re not expected to beat Barcelona, no-one is. Last year was a really special moment. It was the 125th anniversary, we had the big display before the game and it all came about in a way that made it a really special moment in Celtic’s history.’
