Santi Cazorla has essentially ruled himself out of the running to play against Napoli on the 1st of October. The club were optimistic that the Spaniard, who has missed the last four Arsenal games with an ankle injury, could possibly return for the Champions League tie.
Cazorla was speaking in a Twitter question and answer session along with Ryo Miyaichi, Emmanuel Frimpong and Mesut Ozil when he was asked about his potential return - and he replied that he could be back to play West Brom on the 6th.
Cazorla has also been speaking about his new team-mate Mesut Ozil:
"The signing of Özil has given us a big jump in quality. He gives you something different. He is a top player and a match winner.’’
Theo Walcott is expected to return by October 19th. The England winger has a torn abdominal muscle - which will rule him out of England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers as well as the Champions League tie against Napoli. He will return for the game with Norwich on the 19th:
The Mirror have been singing the praises of German defender Per Mertesacker, who has strted the season in fine form:
‘’Arsenal fans have become acquainted to his strong, solid and determined performances over the past 18 months or so while there is still a misconception among supporters of other clubs.
Because of his giant 6ft 7in frame and looking somewhat ungainly, Mertesacker is too easily dismissed as being clumsy and awkward.
There are definitely more elegant and faster players than him, but he is important in other ways for being strong, powerful and a defensive kingpin.’’
After he returned to action for the club yesterday, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has challenged Nicklas Bendtner to fight for his place in the Arsenal team:
"Nicklas overall had a good game for a guy who has not played for so long. He did very well on his own up front for nearly two hours. He showed heart and he has quality to come back as well. I don't question too much his confidence. For Bendtner the most important thing is to stay fit physically…’’
