Tottenham Hotspur morning news: AVB urges caution, Spurs in for Swiss defender

A round up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Jermain Defoe was the star performer as Spurs ran rampant against Aston Villa, winning 4-0 in the League Cup.

Defoe bagged a brace against a greatly weakened Aston Villa side, which was plagued by injuries in the build up to the match.

Defoe has seen his starting place at White Hart Lane go to Roberto Soldado and this performance will do his chances of getting that place back, no harm at all.

Andre Villas-Boas has urged his side and the club’s supporters not to get carried away with their good start to the season.

Spurs are joint top of the Premier League alongside local rivals Arsenal, with talk of silverware this season common around the club.

“That's the nature of the Premier League and the excitement it brings. At the moment, it's going well for us. This gives us confidence and motivation for the next game but Chelsea are a different proposition,” said the manager.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of the sides interested in FC Basel centre back Fabian Schar.

Spurs will face competition from Inter Milan and Arsenal if they want to go after the player this winter, as AVB looks to add depth to the defensive section of his squad.

Arsenal are thought to be ready to make a decent offer this winter, which means Spurs may have to get involved in a bidding war if they really want him.
