Alan Pardew has promised to play a 'strong side' in the Capital One Cup tonight.
The Magpies boss claims he is still hurting from his team's shock defeat against Hull City at St James' Park over the weekend.
Pardew has demanded a reaction when the Toon host Leeds on Tyneside - and the gaffer is expected to field a team combining senior and fringe players.
Yohan Cabaye is out with an injury for this encounter, with Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote back in contention. Pardew has also confirmed youngsters Sammy Ameobi and Paul Dummett will be handed an opportunity to stake their claim for a first team spot.
Here are the XI players Alan Pardew is likely to go with tonight:
GK - Rob Elliot
Second choice goalkeeper Elliot has proven to be a reliable deputy for Tim Krul. He kept a clean sheet in Newcastle's second round win at Morecambe last month - and is expected to be given the nod tonight.
RB - Davide Santon
The first choice left-back could shift to the right as Alan Pardew gives Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy a rest. Santon put in an array impressive displays at right-back for previous club Inter Milan.
CB - Mike Williamson
The former Watford defender is yet to make an appearance this season and has fallen behind Fabricio Coloccini, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Steven Taylor in the pecking order. Taylor's injury means Williamson is back in contention for tonight's game.
CB - Fabricio Coloccini
Ahead of the game, Coloccini has spoken of Newcastle 'doing a Swansea' and winning the League Cup. The commanding centre-back would be hoping to bring back some much needed organisation to the Toon defence, which conceded three goals against Hull.
LB - Paul Dummett
The Wales under-21 international has been told to seize the moment by Alan Pardew as he challenges Davide Santon for a first-team place. Dummett impressed against Morecambe last month, and would be looking to put in an equally impressive display against Leeds tonight.
RM - Moussa Sissoko
Sissoko has been a consistent presence in Newcastle's team this season - and there's no reason for Pardew to drop or rest him tonight. His energy and drive from the middle of the park could prove vital tonight.
CM - Cheick Tiote
The inconsistent Tiote has been left on the sidelines, largely due to the superb form of Dutchman Vurnon Anita. Tonight is an ideal opportunity for Tiote to show what he can offer to Pardew's first choice XI.
LM - Sylvain Marveaux
Marveaux is the only player in the Premier League to create a chance more often than Arsenal's Mesut Ozil this season. His average is a chance created every 14.27 minutes - and Newcastle could do with that sort of creativity tonight.
RF - Sammy Ameobi
The younger Ameobi has lightening speed and good finishing ability. He's pushing for a regular first team place, and many Newcastle fans feel tonight could be his last chance to show he has what it takes to remain on Tyneside.
CF - Papiss Cisse
Cisse hasn't scored a goal for 11 games, so sticking with him for a game with 'weaker' opposition in Leeds United makes sense. In an ideal world he would score a hat-trick tonight to officially kick start his season.
LF - Yoan Gouffran
Gouffran has been knocking on the door for the last few weeks, and has done really well coming off the bench. Tonight he can not only add to his goalscoring tally but show why he deserves to start week-in, week-out.
What do you think of the team? Is it strong enough to beat Leeds?
