Just when you thought the Mesut Ozil transfer fallout had seen it's final twist, another emerges.
He said: "Mourinho wanted to sign Mesut Özil, but arrived late because the offer had been received Arsenal for Real Madrid."
Ozil sealed his deal to Arsenal with an hour to go, with Mourinho apparently showing no interest in him before the Gunners were interested.
The German playmaker flourished under Mourinho's management at the Madrid, but was played out on the wing in early games under Carlo Ancelotti.
Chelsea have no clear need for a playmaker like Ozil in their squad, indeed he would only complicate the selection situation surrounding Oscar and Juan Mata further.
It would indicate he wanted to try and sign the German as a spoiler, to stop rivals Arsenal strengthening. Mourinho admited prevented the deadline day loan for Demba Ba to Arsenal based on the fact he felt combined with Ozil, the Gunners would become title challengers.
The two other players Mourinho reportedly wanted to sign were left-back Fabio Coentrao, who came close to sealing a late loan to Manchester United, and midfielder Sami Khedira, who Madrid told him point blank was 'not for sale'.
Considering the negative feedback in Madrid in relation to Ozil's sale, perhaps it is just as well he was not allowed to join Jose Mourinho - their former boss who split opinion like no other.
