This morning’s reports claim Bale flew back from Spain to hold talks with United after a £100million bid was submitted. However, he ultimately moved to Spain for £14million less than the English champions’ staggering reported bid.
If it is true, it signals United’s intent to bring in one of those “stellar signings” Ed Woodward had spoken of. And with David Moyes yesterday refusing to deny an offer had been made, it appears it was not only Cesc Fabregas who snubbed a move to Old Trafford this summer.
With no quotes or evidence as such, it appears the paper simply saw the possibility of a creative midfielder leaving one club and instantly linked him with the English team in most desperate need of one.
And finally, in a day heavy with transfer news despite January being months away, the same paper publishes Moyes’ quotes on his need for more players.
Speaking in the run-up to tonight’s League Cup match against Liverpool, the United boss has admitted his squad is still lacking one or two players needed in order to compete at the very top.
“Going back to that transfer window, we always said it was going to be a tough one and it was going to take a bit more time,” he said. “So yes, it does mean I may have to take a few more blows.
“Maybe where we’ve got work to do is to bring players in, not for the squad, but to go right into the team. But that will happen.”
Although unfortunately for United fans, it will not happen until at least January…
