A round up of the latest news and gossip relating to Liverpool.
Striker Luis Suarez will make his much anticipated return from suspension against Manchester United in the League Cup this evening. Daniel Agger is unlikely to be risked while Andre Wisdom should have a chance to impress at right-back at Old Trafford.
Many will be watching Suarez’s appearance this evening, hoping for signs that he’s learned lessons from last season and will be less prone to similar errors for the rest of the Premier League campaign.
“I think that test will come over time. It won’t be a one-off game. I think over time, we will see the lessons learned and that maturity,” said the boss.
Victor Moses has rubbished suggestions that this evening’s match will lack the spark of a normal United v Liverpool rivalry simply because it’s the League Cup. Moses has revealed that Liverpool are as determined to win this derby as any other against their old enemy.
Despite that optimism, only 36% of the betting market believes Liverpool will get a result this evening, with punters putting their cash on a reaction from United after they were thrashed in the Manchester derby.
“When you considered what he said earlier this season and his attitude, I would have got rid of him and gone and got some players who want to be there,” said Grobbelaar.
Former Reds favourite Phil Thompson has urged manager Brendan Rodgers to go out of his way to offer help to Luis Suarez.
“I think players everywhere need help and it's down to THE managers. In terms of diving Luis needed to be told and he got his act into gear last season with that - It's down to managers to tell them what's right and what's wrong,” said Thompson.
In transfer news, the club remain firmly linked with former midfielder Xabi Alonso. Indications are that Serie A club Juventus will move for the Spaniard but Liverpool are also interested in giving the player a route back to Anfield where he’s still admired.
One player Liverpool certainly won’t want to leave the club is centre back Martin Skrtel. The defender is reportedly a target for Serie A side Napoli, with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez apparently ready to raid his old club to try and make the deal happen.
