The Belgian defender was beaten for pace by Helenius in Tottenham's 4-0 win at Villa Park in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
And as the Danish striker is about the pull the trigger, Vertonghen bizarrely pulls down his shorts.
Somehow, Helenius manages to stay on his feet and fires his effort well over the bar.
No foul was called, with Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert claiming it should have been a penalty.
"It is the first time I have seen something like that happen. You hope you get those decisions. I don't think anybody could believe he wasn't pulled back."
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted Vertonghen was lucky not to concede a penalty with the scoreline at 1-0.
What do you make of Vertonghen's 'crazy' decision? Should it have been declared a foul?
