The 49ers are in trouble, can they turn it around?

The San Francisco 49ers were labeled as the Super Bowl favourites even before they took the field in preseason.

Pundits and experts have been pouring praise on QB Colin Kaepernick, Coach Jim Harbaugh and their rock solid defense.

It was thought that only a very special team effort would see the 49ers miss out on claiming a sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy.

I think it’s safe to say that so far this season it hasn’t worked out though all looked well and good in an opening weekend win against Green Bay, but consecutive convincing defeats to the Seahawks and Colts have left the team reeling.

Their offense seems toothless and the defense has inexplicably stopped playing to the high level they are so used to under Coach Harbaugh.

San Francisco sit at 1-2 having suffered back-to-back defeats for the time under Harbaugh and they travel to St Louis for a divisional matchup against the Rams, there’s no time at all to reflect on the loss.

Some have suggested the offensive power cut is due to NFL defences finally figuring out how to stop the free running Colin Kaepernick, he has been restricted from scrambling in these last two games and even Colt’s QB Andrew Luck had more rushing yards on Sunday.

To add to their troubles the 49ers have lost their Pro Bowl linebacker Aldon Smith indefinitely, Smith was arrested last week after being found to be drink driving.

This was the second occasion this had happened and Smith will take time out to get some help for his personal problems; it is also likely he will receive a suspension and fine from the NFL.

Luckily they have a relatively schedule in the next few weeks until they travel to New Orleans to face off against Drew Brees and the Saints in week 11.

San Francisco will have to find a way of turning it round quickly otherwise their season could become a panic over the final few games.
