Italy's Old Lady are reportedly lining up a winter window bid for an old Anfield favourite. Chelsea also alert to situation...
Deep-lying midfielder Xabi Alonso's employment status at Real Madrid is alerting a number of European clubs, particularly former suitors Liverpool, but also Chelsea and, according to the latest reports; Juventus.
Alonso's contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the current season and, thus far, there has been no concrete interest from Real to extend the terms of that deal.
The 31-year-old, while untested in first-team duty this season, remains a highly-respected individual abroad due to his consistent performances of the past decade. However, with Real's congested midfield options that include Asier Illarramendi and Sami Khedira, Alonso may well be regarded surplus to requirements at Madrid.
Over the summer, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was allegedly in a dilemma over an Alonso acquisition as the player's age went against a no over-30s ruling, but a £10m fee remained one the tabloids linked the manager to.
According to transfermarkt, the player's market value is closer to £16m, despite the imminent expiration of his Real Madrid contract and the possibility of obtaining his signature on a free deal in 2014's summer.
Tuttosport linked Juventus with an end-of-season swoop for the Spaniard a matter of weeks ago, but TalkSport claim the Serie A side will more than likely test Real's resolve with a January transfer bid. Chelsea were linked with a July transfer by both the Independent and the Daily Star.
