No Suarez concerns for Rodgers, Glen Johnson latest - Liverpool morning news

Daniel Agger a doubt for the League Cup tie, Alonso is linked with a Liverpool return and success for the Under 21's.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists that Luis Suarez will show he is committed to the Liverpool cause when he returns to the side after a ten game ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

Rodgers said the Uruguayan is ‘champing at the bit’ to return to the side and that he has no concerns about selecting the striker.

“There’s a real determination in him now and obviously there was a lot going on over the course of the summer but he’s trained really hard, really well, and his entrance to come back into the squad now is perfect timing really.”

Vice-captain Daniel Agger is a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford because of a rib injury that is affecting his breathing – something which he aggravated during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Anfield at the weekend according to the Liverpool Echo

Glen Johnson may have to wait until the end of the season before being offered a new contract by Liverpool as the right-back has entered the final two years of his current deal, though he may have to take a pay cut with a new contract according to the Daily Telegraph.

But Brendan Rodgers gave some good news on the injury front as the cast on Johnson’s ankle has been removed – an injury he sustained against Manchester United at the start of the month.

Rodgers said: “He’s got the cast off his foot now and he is working hard to be back in the next few weeks.”

Liverpool’s under 21 side won 2-0 at Manchester City where striker Adam Morgan scored a stunning goal from close to the halfway line, and a Cameron Brannagan sealed the victory midway through the second half.

There is one transfer rumour which Liverpool fans may be interested in, and it’s that TalkSport are reporting that Liverpool are prepared to battle with Juventus to bring midfielder Xabi Alonso back to the club. The Spaniard’s contract at Real Madrid expires at the end of the season and both clubs are said to be monitoring the situation.
