After the dismissal of Paulo Di Canio as Sunderland manager, Barton took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the North East club's decision.
Safe to say Barton, who played in Newcastle 5-1 demolition of Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park back in 2010 had no sympathy for the Mackems.
He referred to the club as 5under1and, in reference to that famous win for Newcastle on Halloween - and even mocked the city as a "cultural utopia".
Here are a few of Barton's tweets:
Hate seeing problems at 5under1and. They are my 5,231 favourite footy team. It is also my 7,230,182 fav city to visit for vacation. #gutted— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) September 22, 2013
Di Canio said to be devastated on having to leave the cultural utopia that is 5under1and to go back home to Rome...— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) September 22, 2013
