Manchester United were awful at the Etihad on Sunday, and David Moyes admitted they were second best all over the pitch.
We don't like to pick people out and scapegoat, and the defeat was certainly not down to one man - but wow, wasn't Ashley Young awful?
The winger had an entirely ineffectual display from an attacking perspective, and from a team one it was infuriating for his manager, with the England international guilty of wasting possession.
An incredible stat which highlighted his woes is the fact that in the first half, Young completed just eight passes. In the second he completed just one more.
Young made just 60 per cent of his passes count, making just nine of 15 attempts, with only four of 10 forward passes finding a teammate.
His crossing was inaccurate, with both the balls he put into CIty's box easily cut out, while the one time he tried to dribble around an opponent he was unsuccessful. He also failed to have a single effort on goal or win a single aerial dual he contested.
Not to paint an entirely negative picture, defensively he attempted to help out - making three clearances, blocking one cross, and making one interception.
We took to Twitter to see if the perception of Young's display was as bad as we first feared, and this is what we discovered regarding United's number 18:
Here’s a list of United players i’d start above Ashley Young... Nani, Kagawa, Januzaj, Zaha, Lingard and last but not least... BEBE! #mufc— Samar (@Samar7) September 22, 2013
For those that say Moyes needs time: Moyes doesn't need time. He needs to stop playing utterly ineffective players named Ashley Young #MUFC— Mitch Toda (@MitchTodaATC) September 22, 2013
If David Moyes plays Ashley Young in a league game again, he should be fired immediately. It's that simple. #MUFC— Luke Clampitt (@LukeClampitt) September 22, 2013
Ashley Young was dispossesed 0 times today. Proves City's tactic with him was just leave him be & wait for him to give it to them. #mufc— Gary Walsh (@garywalsh) September 22, 2013
Words cannot begin to describe how hurting it is to always see Ashley Young in that starting 11...it kills my soul!! #mufc"— Jiten Mishra (@G2United) September 22, 2013
I would offer more in a united shirt than Ashley Young. So woeful! still wondering why Sir Alex Ferguson signed him. #MUFC— Adeyeancah Salenko (@sadex2012) September 22, 2013
I will note that we did not concede a goal after Ashley Young left the game. We won 1-0 after he left. #MUFC— Arjun Mishra (@Arjunation) September 22, 2013
Does Young deserve the abuse?
