Markus Hanfler provides an insight into the view from Germany regarding Arsenal's top stars.
They really can’t get enough Ozil, can they? He couldn’t handle the pressure, club president Florentino Perez of Real Madrid said.
Now it’s time for Arsenal’s goalkeeper legend Jens Lehmann to give the world a piece of his mind.
He told German media outlet Spox: “Certainly Mesut Ozil is much too expensive, but that's because Bale has gone for far too much money to Madrid No one is worth so much."
As compared to Gareth Bale, Mesut Ozil “is significantly the better transfer", adding: "I do not see 50 million difference between the two, these are the mechanisms of the market, which are set by a crazy club like Real Madrid in motion."
That showed yesterday as the so called “German Gunners” went for the win on Sunday’s 3-1 victory against Stoke City FC.
The German press is full of praises for Ozil and Mertesacker. German football magazine 11 Freunde are posting on their website: “German Gunners storming [to the] top of the table”.
11 Freunde and the national newspaper Suddeutsche from Bavaria reported that Ozil was a superior provider and impressed German international coach Jogi Low, who watched the game from the stands, continuing to assist the team's goalscoring.
Germans favorite tabloid Bild was a little bit more euphoric in this respect. “Jogi saw freakish Mesut-show” and continuing: “The freakish balance of our international […]: three assists […].”
Per Mertesacker was also under observation. His mistake in the 26th minute where he lost his footing against his former Werder Bremen teammate Marko Arnautovic was punished by Geoff Cameron’s goal.
“Mertesacker looked poorly” at this moment Bild wrote. But he compensated for his positional error with a header.
The solid performance by the German young Gunner Serge Gnabry was just mentioned only briefly.
How do you evaluate the performance by the German Gunners? What do you think of Lehmann's comments?
