A round up of the key news about Chelsea this morning.
Chelsea’s need for a centre forward accompanied with the pressure from fans had led to the idea that Lukaku could be recalled from Everton.
However, there is no recall clause in the striker’s current deal at Everton; “Lukaku is good at Everton. If he’s going to play every game, it’s good for his future at Chelsea,” said Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Spanish midfielder Juan Mata will start in the League Cup game against Swindon.
The Blues travel to the County Ground tomorrow and Mourinho has challenged Mata to step up and prove why he deserves a place in the Chelsea first team.
Mata has not featured prominently under Mourinho which has led to speculation over the play maker’s future.
Mourinho has also defended himself against early criticism this season insisting he’s a victim of his own success.
Chelsea responded well to back-to-back defeats at the weekend with a strong win against local rivals Fulham.
“When you win once in 10 years people don’t expect a lot of you. When you win in 10 consecutive years people expect a lot. I am guilty of that and accept the critics. That is my fault. My fault,” said the boss.
