All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…
While the result would have caused consternation among Reds fans, the same can be said of Brendan Rodgers’ team selection, as he opted to start with a defence containing four players more commonly used as centre-backs, this despite having both Jose Enrique and Andre Wisdom on the bench.
After the match, Rodgers told the Telegraph the only positive to take from the match was that it marked the end of Luis Suarez’s 10-game suspension. The Uruguayan will now be available for Liverpool’s League Cup match at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
“I think he is in a good condition,” the manager said of Suarez. “He has been playing games behind closed doors, and doing a lot of specific work with the conditioning team.”
Kolo Toure has also been speaking about Saturday’s loss, telling Sky Sports that the team will learn from the result.
“It is a setback but the season is long,” the defender said. “You are going to have ups and downs, wins, losses and draws. The most important thing is how you react.
“We will learn from the mistakes we did and focus on the next game.”
In other news, Liverpool youngster Krisztian Adorjan made it three goals in three games as he continued his fine spell for loan club Groningen.
The 20-year-old Hungarian starred during Liverpool’s NextGen campaign last season, and has now seemingly taken the next step up with ease.
