Five Liverpool players who could use League Cup to prove a point

Jordon Ibe

Which quintet of Liverpool players could send a message to Brendan Rodgers this week?

It may be a League Cup game, but it is against Manchester United, so expect Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers to field a pretty strong team.

However, a couple of players will be asked to prove a point in the week.

Jordon Ibe

The former Wycombe Wanderers winger made an impression for the club on the final day of last season - and Liverpool fans are just dying to see more of his talent on show in a Liverpool shirt.

Manchester United are the opponents, but Ibe should still get a chance to shine … and it will not only be Liverpool fans excited to see this teenager in action.

Tiago Ilori

The Portuguese defender has not had a chance to shine since arriving from Sporting Lisbon on Deadline Day - and he is surely going to get a shot against the Premier League champions.

The young stopper is highly rated in his homeland - and this will be a real chance to show what he is capable of.

Luis Suarez

Well you might have heard of this guy, the Uruguayan striker is something of a top talent and he has scored his fair share of goals in the past.

But you could be forgiven for forgetting who he is, he hasn’t played for so long.

But he is back, and will want to make immediate amends for his recent antics against Moyes’ men.

Martin Kelly

The defender is one of their most talented young players, but has only recently returned from a serious knee injury.

Now Kelly is hoping to earn his place in the starting line-up after such a long time out of action, and who knows, if he really proves his worth he might just make it back into the England squad - a good performance in the week could be the start.

Luis Alberto

Liverpool have not yet seen the best of their expense from Barcelona B via Sevilla - as he has made most of his Liverpool appearances from the substitute bench.

This is an opportunity for him to start the game and hopefully highlight the talent which made Brendan Rodgers invest £6.8 million in his services.
