CONFIRMED: Tottenham line-up – Rose out, Townsend starts and Chiriches on the bench

Here is the Tottenham line-up for today’s match against Cardiff City.

Starting XI: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Naughton, Paulinho, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Townsend, Soldado

Subs: Friedel, Chiriches, Fryers, Holtby, Lamela, Sandro, Kane

Tottenham have a number of injury issues as they approach today’s match. The trio of Danny Rose, Younes Kaboul and Mousa Dembele all suffered knocks during last week’s Europa League match; although in more positive news, Vlad Chiriches has finally received his work permit following his summer switch from Steaua Bucharest.

Cardiff City have mixed news on the injury front, with goalkeeper David Marshall and Craig Bellamy both fit, but striker Andreas Cornelius still unavailable.

Spurs will be paying close attention to Arsenal’s early match against Stoke City, because an unlikely defeat could see Tottenham climb from fourth to first, although any victory for Andre Villas-Boas’s side this afternoon will see them finish the day no lower than second in the table.

The last time Spurs and Cardiff met in the top flight, the London side were champions, with the corresponding fixture ending 1-1 at Ninian Park. And Tottenham will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself, as they have not won away at Cardiff in any competition since 1957.

What is your prediction for the game?
