Much has been made recently of Chelsea’s loan partnership with Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem. The Blues currently have six players out on loan at the Eredivisie club including the likes of Christian Atsu, Sam Hutchinson and Patrick van Aanholt, but perhaps the most exciting of all the players currently farmed out to the Gelredome is Brazilian forward Lucas Piazon.
The striker has been dubbed the next Kaka in the past and was Chelsea’s Young Player of the Year winner in 2011-12 - after an excellent spell in the Chelsea youth system.
Last term he spent time on loan with La Liga outfit Malaga - which proved to be a rather unfulfilling experience.
But the former Sao Paulo lad was never going to get much of a chance at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho this campaign - so he was always a likely candidate for a move to their favourite loan destination.
Up until now, Piazon had not really made an impact in Holland - but he certainly did today.
Piazon bagged a brace, his first goals for Vitesse, in a 3-0 win against PEC Zwolle - with his goals coming either side of a powerful header from Kevin Leerdam.
Before this game Zwolle had been in great form and were at the right end of the table, but a defeat to Ajax, their first of the season, last week sent them back to earth with a bang.
Piazon was at the centre of it all - with his double and overall performance the difference maker in a dominant performance from Vitesse - themselves hoping to challenge for the title this season.
Chelsea fans will now hope that this can be the catalyst for a good run of form in the Vitesse Arnhem line-up - and that he comes back to London a more complete article than the inconsistent Brazilian starlet that left.
You can see his second goal in the video below, which is set up by a delightful back-heel from Everton loanee Francisco Junior …
