You might think it is a little early to start banging on about January transfers, but that has not stopped the mainstream press doing just that - and believe you me, as much as they protest otherwise the top clubs will already be thinking of who their main transfer targets should be.
It was reported last night that Song was unhappy with his role at Barcelona, and that he would be asking for a transfer away from the club in January.
He is said to be concerned about his place in the Cameroonian national team as he barely features for the Blaugrana at this moment in time.
That has set the juices running in many a transfer column and gossip page - with Arsenal said to be interested in bringing him back to North London on loan and Manchester United also now said to be keen.
But one interesting piece that has caught our eye is from Italy - where AC Milan are said to be considering making a move for the 26-year-old deep-lying midfielder.
And they are reportedly ready to offer a rather tempting player as bait for the former Bastia youngster - Italian international Stephan El Shaarawy.
Things are reportedly tense between the young forward and pretty much everyone else at Milan, and reports suggest Spurs would be willing to bring him to White Hart Lane in the winter emerged a week ago.
However with this deal on the cards AC Milan might be more willing to sell. The club enjoy a trade, as it foregoes the business of making bids for players in a market where recently, they have been thoroughly outgunned.
So Alex Song, you never know, you could be doing your old team a favour if you go through with this deal.
