Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Brad Guzan’s performance against Norwich

A fine performance from the Villa 'keeper helped his side to a first clean-sheet in 27 games, and the fans had plenty to say about it.

Goal-scorer Libor Kozak may take the headlines following Aston Villa’s 1-0 win against Norwich City at Carrow Road. But the Villans owe as much to their goalkeeper Brad Guzan as they do to their Czech striker.

Before Kozak scored with just his second touch, the American stopper kept out Robert Snodgrass’s penalty. And he would ultimately be crowned man-of-the-match.

A closer look at the statistics suggests Guzan did not have as much to do as most ‘keepers who are crowned their side’s best performer. But what he did, he did perfectly.

Norwich City had just two shots on target and Guzan saved both of them, including an outstanding late save to deny Gary Hooper.  He also claimed nine crosses and found a teammate with 82% of his passes.

But perhaps the most vital statistic is that for the first time in 27 league games, Villa kept a clean-sheet.

For much of last season, Guzan’s performances were consistently impressive. And yet now he has the vital statistic to go with them.

Paul Lambert’s side are growing with every game, and given their performances at the back-end of last season, I expected big things from them in the new campaign.

After a shaky start – at least in terms of results – Saturday’s success was vital as the former Norwich manager attempts to build on last season’s ultimately impressive form.

It was no surprise that Villa fans were full of praise for Guzan after the match. And below you can find a selection of tweets on the ‘keeper’s performance.
