The Argentine has been acquired as something of a replacement to Gareth Bale, who as you will know, unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, signed for Real Madrid this summer for Dr Evil like ransom money.
Lamela, who has been struggling with fitness since his arrival in North London finally made his first start for Spurs against Tromso in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night - and will surely be hoping to feature against Cardiff City on Sunday evening.
However Lamela’s former team-mates are involved in perhaps their biggest game of the season on Sunday - as they face off against Lazio in the Rome derby.
The game is one of the most fiercely contested in all of world football - and Gervinho recently belittled the North London equivalent in comparison.
Gervinho is expected to start the game for Rudi Garcia’s unbeaten Roma, and Lamela will know, as he informed Italian media this week that he will be watching the game:
“I will definitely watch the Derby. I wish all the best to all my teammates at Roma and I hope they win on Sunday. This season the club has formed a really strong team and I am sure the best is yet to come for the Giallorossi.”
But hold on, doesn’t he have a game against Cardiff to be concentrating on. The Rome derby kicks off at 13:00 GMT and the Cardiff game 16:00 GMT so sure, there is three hours in between.
But what about pre-match rituals, meetings, lunch, travel, and of course warm-ups and training - even if Lamela is on the bench he will be otherwise predisposed when the Rome derby is on.
He might catch snippets, but in reality it is probably best you Sky Plus this one Erik, and concentrate on your new team taking three points from Wales.
