All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
As he prepares for his first derby match in English football, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has explained that he fully understands the importance of Sunday’s game against Manchester United.
Speaking to Sky Sports earlier today, he said, “I don’t need to be here to know just how important this game is to everyone.
“I’m well aware. Football in England is different, I hope everyone enjoys it. It’s a six-point game. These are two of the teams that will challenge.”
Pellegrini also revealed that both Micah Richards and David Silva are nearing a return to the first team, although he said that Sunday’s match may come too soon for the pair.
Then again, the Manchester Evening News seems to think the Chilean may be telling a fib or two, as they report that Silva could be fit for the match.
There is no doubt it would be a huge boost for the Blues, and a blow for a United side who have taken just one point from two games against their rivals for the title so far this season.
In other early team news, Vincent Kompany looks set to feature following his Champions League return. While both Gael Clichy and Martin Demichelis are still unavailable.
And finally some transfer news, with the Metro reporting that City could move for centre-back Pericles Santos Pereira in January.
The Gil Vicente player – more commonly known as Pecks – is seen as a cheap but effective option at the back, with a fee of £5million being reported.
