The day Lionel Messi 'humiliated' former boss Pep Guardiola

If Messi wants a coke, Messi will have a coke.

That's the story Swedish coach Hans Backe has told broadcaster TV4 Sports.

According to the former New York Red Bulls coach, Messi is no angel and once allegedly humiliated coach Pep Guardiola in front of the entire Barcelona team three hours before a match.

Here's the story, as told by Backe:

"It was three hours before the match, all the players were sitting and eating, when Messi said he wants a coke.

"'No, no, we don't drink a cola three hours before the match,' Guardiola replied.

"So Messi got up from his chair and returned a few minutes later with a can of cola, which he then opened and drank right in front of Guardiola and the rest of the team.

"Imagine what would have happened when a player with the profile of Messi goes against the coach in this way. It is a war that Guardiola can not win. It is impossible," Backe said.

Funnily enough, Messi has a sponsorship deal with Pepsi - so we're assuming it was Pepsi and not Coca-Cola that the Argentine star was drinking.

Either way, it is a fascinating insight into Messi's personality and a reflection of player power in football.

The Swede is standing by his claims, adding: "Sensational? I have a bunch of lawyers behind me," but he refused to delve into the source of his information on air.

What do you make of Backe's claims?
