Arsenal morning news: Ozil 'couldn't handle the pressure' and Wilshere targets top

News and gossip from The Emirates including Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Ciprian Marica.

Arsenal fans may be very excited over the potential greatness of their record signing Mesut Ozil, but the French press were highly critical of his turn out against Marseille on Tuesday night.

French paper L’Equipe only gave the German international four out of ten for his performance at the Stade Velodrome - where admittedly he was not at his best.

But he has just started to recover from a stomach bug, so I think judgement will be reserved for now.

In fact the news is a little Ozil heavy this morning, for a change as Florentino Perez once again launched something of an attack on the German international.

The Real Madrid president stated in an interview with Spanish TV:

‘’The player asked to leave and nobody here should be upset about it. He couldn’t handle the pressure at Madrid."

And he might be right, at least if he is talking about singing in public. Ozil has been revealed as a little chicken when having to sing on his initiation by the Daily Express last night. Ozil reportedly stopped singing halfway through and apologised to his new team-mates.

Now that is it for Ozil, I promise and moving on to Jack Wilshere. The Englishman feels that the club need to target top spot in Group F of the Champions League - which would mean finishing ahead of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund.

"Dortmund losing does open it up a bit. We have got two home games now [Napoli and Dortmund] and they are tough teams but if we play to our full potential in front of our fans, we should be able to win those games.’’

Ciprian Marica has now spoken about his future, with suggestions that the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Fiorentina are all keeping tabs on the Romanian free agent.

He left Schalke at the end of last season after a disappointing spell in Gelsenkirchen and is hopefully going to have made his move by the end of next week:

"I am in negotiations with three teams. I hope I will be able to tell you the name of my next team by the end of next week."
