Erik Lamela started his first Tottenham game in the 3-0 Europa League win over Tromso. How did he get on?
Tottenham's record signing Erik Lamela was handed his first starting opportunity for the club last night, playing his part in the Europa League victory over Tromso.
Lamela, who played the full 90 minutes, worked hard down the right-hand side of the pitch trying his best to create opportunities for his teammates.
His passing was unerringly accurate, completing 44 of 48 passes (90 per cent), but only put one cross into the box which was unsuccessful.
Lamela made two tackles, one in his own penalty area, and two clearances, showing he is not just a fancy attacking player but is prepared to work hard for the cause too, while also winning two of the three aerial duels he contested.
Perhaps disappointingly, he only beat his man once out of four attempted dribbling attempts to go around an opponent, something to work on no doubt if selected for their next game in the Premier League away to Cardiff City.
But importantly, Lamela provided his first assist in a Tottenham shirt, playing a delightful through ball for Jermain Defoe to open the scoring.
The striker was delighted with the pass, and hinted it was no mere stroke of fortune;
"Erik, what a ball! He was waiting for my run. We worked on it in training. I just had to finish."
So he was clearly impressed, but did Spurs fans like what they saw? We took to Twitter to find out...
Thought Lamela put in a shift, showed glimpses of what he's about. Assist was classy but will need time.— Tottenham Talk (@tottenhamtalk1) September 19, 2013
However, Lamela has made an assist tonight, but I want more. He needs to take shots. Get a goal, Erik! #THFC— Tottenham Pictures (@THFCPictures) September 19, 2013
Lamela had good game with nice assist, gonna be a class player IMO. Eriksen's goal was brilliant! But gutted for Rose's injury though #COYS— Youssef M. Chaabi (@YChaabi) September 19, 2013
Lamela looks timid atm and need time to settle. Good run out for him. I think he could, in time, fill a certain Welsh mans boots perhaps..— ™ (@TJMOTT33) September 19, 2013
Thought Lamela did well, good touch and quick thinking. Tends to drift inside so will be helped massively with Walker back in the side.— The Spurs n Cider (@thespursncider) September 19, 2013
You can tell Lamela is gonna be something special— George Poll (@Georgepoll) September 19, 2013

What did you think of Lamela's performance and what does he need to work on most? Will he prove to be money well spent?
