Newcastle scouts keeping tabs on young English forward

Burnley Kick Off

Burnley striker Danny Ings has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Newcastle United.

The Magpies have had considerable success in the French market in recent years, but it now looks like the focus has shifted closer to home.

Sources close to the club have told Here Is The City that Toon representatives have watched the 21-year-old Ings three times this season.

The frontman has impressed with seven goals in nine Championship games this campaigh, and it is believed that the Clarets value him around the £7 million mark.

A whole host of Premier League clubs, including Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest.

Newcastle are starting to run short of English players, having lost Steve Harper, Danny Simpson and James Perch in the summer transfer window.

The last English-born player to join Newcastle was goalkeeper Rob Elliot back in August 2011.

Burundi-born Gael Bigirimana who moved to Tyneside from Coventry in 2012 chose to represent England at the U20 World Cup in Turkey earlier this year.

What do you think of Danny Ings? Is the Championship talent worth £7 million?
