On this day: Oscar brace, Fletcher returned and Ba 'could leave'

Oscar for Chelsea

On the 19th September 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 19th September 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 19th September 2012…

Oscar winning performance

A year ago today Oscar was scoring a double in the Champions League. His performance was in fact pretty incredible, and it was the first glimpse of the excellent talent the young Brazilian presented. Care for a reminder?

In the end Juventus fought back to draw 2-2, which was the start of their disappointing Champions League campaign.

Last night Oscar was on target in the Champions League once again - but this time Chelsea lost 2-1 at home to FC Basel- which has Mourinho and co in a real early pickle.

End of his Fletch-ed luck?

A rather thin and gaunt looking Darren Fletcher made his long awaited return to action after 10 months out with ulcerative colitis.

It came amid a disappointing display from United in the Champions League against Galatasaray - which they won 1-0 thanks to an early Michael Carrick strike.

But 12 months later and Fletcher is once again embarking on a comeback from the illness -after playing just 12 more games since the 11 minute cameo against Gala, and not featuring since Boxing Day of last year.

Ba Ba Demba

Alan Pardew was forced to admit that Demba Ba could leave the club in the January transfer window. It came after he admitted his despondency at the decision to start him from the bench against Everton on the Monday night.

Ba had an active release clause of £7 million and was making it increasingly clear that his desire was to leave St James Park.

He did just that a few months later, signing on for Chelsea.
