After watching his former side Real Madrid torch Galatasaray 6-1, Mesut Ozil must have wondered what all the fuss was about.
All the bitterness spewed by the Spanish media in the wake of his sale towards him must have made the German even more desperate to get playing again.
He had a dream debut in the Premier League against Sunderland, providing two assists in the 3-1 win.
Now after helping Arsenal to a 2-1 away win in the Champions League against Marseille, Ozil himself has dubbed the performance as 'perfect.'
three points - a perfect start in the CL. Drei Punkte - ein perfekter Start in die CL.— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) September 18, 2013
While Aaron Ramsey deservedly took the plaudits, Arsenal's record signing was pretty good too.
Ozil completed 90 per cent of his passes, more than any Gunner with the exception of Mathieu Flamini (93) who put in a solid shift against his former club.
Ozil also provided two key passes leading to goalscoring opportunities, more than any other player on the pitch.
His addition can only help players like Jack Wilshere improve their own games further, and his clear enthusiasm off the pitch will only be of benefit to the rest of the squad.
The win puts Arsenal in a very good position for their next game against the night's other winners Napoli.
Win that and it really will be a perfect start as Arsenal will then be in control of the group and their own destiny.
