Cardiff City v Tottenham Hotspur - Five players under the spotlight

Cardiff City will enter this game as underdogs but in the knowledge that they can upset the teams from the top half.

They showed that and more in their 3-2 win against Manchester City in August, Spurs will be very careful not to underestimate the Bluebirds on Sunday. Malkay Mackay will know that winning their home games will be vital in their effort to stay in the top flight.

Andre Villas Boas will be hoping to see a much more cohesive performance as his new signings start to settle in to the league and get used to their new teammates. This contest has all the makings of an excellent match; you can definitely expect goals with both teams going for the win.

You would expect Spurs to have too much for the league’s new boys but don’t count out a big upset from the Welsh side/

Odds: Cardiff City 18/5, Draw 13/5, Tottenham 10/11

Five players to watch on Sunday:

Steven Caulker

The former Tottenham player joined Cardiff City in the summer and will meet his former club for the first time on Sunday afternoon. He will be out to prove a point and make it clear to Andre Villas Boas that he was wrong to sell him. With the attacking talent on show he will need to be on top of his game if Cardiff are to get anything from the game.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen joined Spurs from Ajax in the last week of the transfer window and made an impressive debut last weekend against Norwich City. He will need to carry on this good form and keep the Tottenham midfield ticking over. He has been one of the most coveted young midfielders in European football since he broke into the Ajax side and he will be looking to show people he can produce in the Premier League.

Craig Bellamy

Strangely for Craig Bellamy he will not be facing a former team this weekend but he will bring some much needed Premier League experience to the Cardiff side, as they look to cause another upset at home after beating Manchester City in August. His work rate will cause Tottenham problems and don’t be surprised if he pops up with a goal or two.

Erik Lamela

The Argentinian forward arrived at White Hart Lane from Roma with a big price tag but hasn’t had a chance yet to show the crowd what he can do. This might be his first real chance on the Premier League stage, whoever the full backs are for Cardiff on Sunday will not be looking forward to facing this skillful attacking talent. AVB will be interested to see how he links up with Eriksen having only been at the club for a couple of weeks.

Roberto Soldado

Another player that arrived at the club with a large price tag is still looking for his first league goal from open play. He scored two penalties in their first two games but hasn’t managed to find the net since, he was kept quiet in the North London Derby by Laurent Koscielny and failed to convert a number of chances against Norwich last weekend. The longer he doesn’t score the more pressure will build and he may find himself out of the team in favour of Jermain Defoe.
