Juventus’ 26-year-old midfield dynamo won’t be going anywhere soon following the opinion of the club’s general director over how much the Chilean is worth.
Giuseppe Marotta has claimed that if Gareth Bale can go to Real Madrid in an £85 million deal then Juventus’ star midfielder is worth just as much, if not more.
“If (Real Madrid's Gareth) Bale is worth 100million Euros, Vidal is also worth that figure. Vidal is a great player and this summer Real Madrid showed an interest in him but we turned it down. Selling him is simply out of the question,” Marotta told Mediaset Premium.
That’s a hammer blow if United were harbouring intentions to try and sign the player this January or next summer after David Moyes failed with bids for Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.
The comments from the club official could be a tactic designed to warn off potentially interested parties because any club would find it difficult to pay €100 million for the central midfielder.
They also have very public intentions to offer the Chilean a new contract which would keep him at the club beyond 2016 so over pricing him is a good way to make sure teams don’t talk to him or his representatives.
If United do want to come up with that amount of cash to get him, they shouldn’t be stopped by the other side that was reportedly interested in him, Real Madrid.
Madrid’s deal for Gareth Bale followed by a quick, brand new contract for Cristiano Ronaldo means it’s unlikely the Spanish side will be spending such huge sums of money again any time soon.
However, United have several other possible targets they can go after who would be less of a risk and substantially cheaper.
What do you think? Is Vidal worth €100 million?
