Arsenal have a pretty good record for picking up all sorts of gems from French football. Mathieu Flamini, Samir Nasri, Olivier Giroud, Robert Pires … I need not continue.
And this summer they were looking to bring in another, in the form of Lille winger Dimitri Payet - at least according to reports.
Last season the French international finally had the chance to be the main attraction, after the former star of the show Eden Hazard made his massive move to Chelsea - and he did not fail to disappoint.
The 26-year-old wizard bagged 13 goals and provided 22 assists last season, which saw him under the microscope for many clubs across the continent.
This June Arsenal were linked with him in many English and French press reports - but in the end it was Marseille who won the race for his signature, agreeing a €10 million deal with Lille, and Payet swapping Ligue 1 outfits on a contract until 2017.
And so far this season he has impressed at the Stade Velodrome, forming a three pronged attack of Les Bleus internationals with Mathieu Valbuena and Andre Pierre Gignac that would be the envy of many a top team.
In five Ligue 1 games he already has three goals and his dribbling ability and passing have made him one of the stars of the early season run-in.
But he really should have four goals to his name, but he made a real hash of a fairly basic chance last weekend against Toulouse.
After good fortune brought to the ball to his feet Payet had an open goal in front of him. All he needed to do was either take a touch and finish it as soon as possible, or slot a cool volley towards the empty net.
Instead, the score remained 0-0 in the eventual 1-1 draw, because Payet did neither of those things.
Instead he controlled the ball haphazardly, dawdled for a little while before the opposing keeper was just centimetres away from the ball and fired a left-foot shot straight at him.
He had another option as well, square to Gignac, who had an even easier route to goal - that is what his opponents did when Danish international Martin Braithwaite set up Wissam Ben Yedder for the opening goal.
In the end Gignac was furious, Toulouse were thankful and Payet was left embarrassed.

But it will be worth watching for any Arsenal fan … hoping that their summer target does something similar this evening.
