Manchester United's Anderson was deadline day target for Juventus - report

Anderson

Manchester United midfielder Anderson was on the shopping list for Juventus during the summer.

Anderson is a Manchester United player who in even his own words has failed to fulfill his potential at the club.

This summer with it a time of transition at Old Trafford and the club searching for midfielders, it was highly conceivable that if an attractive offer came in for the Brazilian then he would be allowed to leave.

But nothing, not even a hint of interest in the player was made public - with his agent clearly having a quiet summer. Or perhaps not.

A report in Italy over the past evening has since claimed that the 24-year-old was a transfer option for Italian champions Juventus.

He along with Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan of Cagliari were on the club's shortlist, claims journalist Gianluca di Marzio.

Di Marzio claimed on Sky Italia show 'Football Special' that a deadline day approach for Anderson was on the club's agenda, although it is unclear exactly whether or not they made a formal offer.

He said: "I found out what was the objective of Juventus  as an alternative to Nainggollan, who Juve tried to sign on the last day of transfers. It was Anderson of Manchester United."

Di Marzio went onto add that Juventus could re-ignite their interest in January, having left it too late to prise Anderson away from United.

However if Anderson did move to the Serie A champions, it is questionable as to whether he would see his playing time increase.

He would have to compete with Arturo Vidal, Claudio Marchisio, and former teammate Paul Pogba, who he was once ahead of in the queue at United. Right now, it's the Frenchman who has more upside.

Whether Anderson's future lies at either United or Juventus is questionable, but he is a player in control of his own destiny.

David Moyes gave him a chance against Crystal Palace at the weekend, showing he is not discounting him from the first team and will offer opportunities to show what he can do.

Anderson simply has to take that chance, whether it be for his future at United or to put himself in the shop window.

What does Anderson's future hold?
