Five memorable Wayne Rooney goals for Manchester United

A look at some of his most memorable Manchester United goals as he reaches the 200 milestone for the club.

Last night Wayne Rooney became only for the fourth player to score 200 goals for Manchester United after a brace against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Here is a look at five memorable goals during his time at Manchester United, but no doubt United fans out there remember more, whether they are for how spectacular they were, or the importance they carried in the context of United's season. Feel free to add your own favourites in the comment section.

Newcastle (H) 2006 Premier League

After Newcastle took the lead through Darren Ambrose, Rooney hit back for Manchester United with a stunning volley after a headed clearance came into his path that any keeper would find very difficult to stop.

Manchester City (H) 2010/11 Premier League

With the Manchester derby locked at 1-1 a ball from Nani deflected up in the air, only for Rooney to readjust his movement and provide a stunning overhead kick into the top corner, leaving City keeper Joe Hart rooted. There are many who would probably regard that goal as his best ever.

Arsenal (H) 2005/06 Premier League

Midway through the second half with the score at 0-0, Mikael Silvestre delivers the ball into the Arsenal area only for Rooney to trap it dead before rifling it into the top corner to give United the lead.

Bolton (H) 2006/07 Premier League

At a pivotal moment in Manchester United’s season as they were looking to reclaim the title from Chelsea, Cristiano Ronaldo combined to produce a wonderful goal on the counter-attack, that came from a Bolton corner. Ronaldo picked the ball up on the edge of the United area and picked out Rooney in the left channel as they exchanged a couple of passes before Rooney chipped over the on-rushing Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Fenerbahce (H) 04/05 Champions League

On his full debut in a rout in the Champions League, Rooney completed his hat-trick with an exquisite free-kick to show why United had spent close to £30m on him.
