The guy who once said “Thank God I have left Brendan Rodgers” is taking advantage of a run in Dortmund's starting line-up.
The infamous words uttered by Nuri Sahin after his loan spell at Liverpool failed to dazzle in the way it was talked up. It followed a lack of success at Real Madrid, the club who still officially retain the Turkish international's services.
His first season in La Liga was injury struck, and he became the forgotten man of the club, agreeing an almost unprecedented 18-month loan to Dortmund in January. It cut short the loan at Liverpool, the failure of which he blamed on Brendan Rodgers playing him out of position.
Now 'back home' with Borussia Dortmund, he finds himself in the starting line-up again.
His progress this season has slipped a little under the radar, but he provided an assist in the club's weekend 6-2 crushing of Hamburg - his first of 2013/14, his fifth match of the season.
It offers him the perfect chance to recapture his best form, and the spotlight will be on him tonight on the big stage against Napoli in the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund supporters know what he is a capable of, a previous Bundesliga winner with the club. Now it is just up to him to show it consistently, in what could be his longest run in any first team for three seasons.
Was Sahin unfair on Rodgers, or do you agree the Liverpool boss should have utilised him more effectively?
