Giroud injury doubt, Ozil knock, Marica battle

Here's the latest on Arsenal, featuring Olivier Giroud, Sami Khedira and Ciprian Marica

FourFourTwo reports that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is a doubt for Arsenal’s Champions League trip to Marseille tomorrow night.

The Frenchman picked up a knee injury in his side’s 3-1 win against Sunderland at the weekend. If he doesn’t make it then it will leave Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with a shortage upfront, and he may have to resort to playing Theo Walcott through the middle. Mesut Özil also picked up a knock, but it expected to make the trip.

The Week reports that Arsenal are set to battle it out with Fiorentina for former Schalke striker Ciprian Marica, the Romanian is currently a free agent after leaving the German club in July.

Wenger is seeking some striking cover after failing to land a big name striker in the summer transfer window. The injuries that he has up front will have heightened his need.

The Daily Star reports that Arsenal will go back to Real Madrid to make a move for German midfielder Sami Khedira.

It was also reported that Manchester United made a deadline day move for the player, but Khedira is seemingly open to a move to the Emirates to join up with his friend Özil

He said this after he left: ‘Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer. We are very, very good friends.’

Finally, the Independent reports that Arsenal ladies title challenge took a blow yesterday after being docked 3 points for fielding an unregistered player, England international Katie Chapman.

She came on as a substitute in a 3-0 win against Liverpool in August, this will dent the Gunners hopes of lifting their third Women’s Super League title in a row.
