Arsenal's Champions League campaign kicks off against Marseille on Wednesday night, so seemingly fans spent a bit of time scouting a potential signing for the club.
To their disappointment Lars Bender was not fit enough to start for Bayer Leverkusen against Manchester United, but came on in the 64th minute for Heung-Min Son.
By the end of the game Lars Bender was trending on Twitter in London, with Gooners having their say on the player.
Arsenal made two bids to sign the defensive midfielder during the summer transfer window, and he is seen as an ideal player to fill the defensive midfield role at the club, despite Mathieu Flamini's impressive performances since arriving. Some have even suggested that countryman Mesut Ozil's arrival makes Arsenal an even more attractive destination for him.
Bender is rated at £20 million plus, but his side's defeat at Old Trafford will have shown his side's limitations at the top level - does he need to move on to fulfil his ambition, with Leverkusen unlikely to break the Bayern and Dortmund duopoly in the Bundesliga?
While that's to be determined, we can take a look at how he performed during his half hour stint in the Champions League:
Bender completed 87 per cent of his passes, 13 of 15, making six of his successful ones in the attacking third of the pitch.
His 27 touches of the ball was only two less than the man he replaced, Son, managed during 64 minutes - although of course the players performed different roles on the pitch.
Bender made five tackles; more than any Manchester United player manage all game. It was the joint highest on the pitch with Simon Rolfes completing five, but over 90 minutes rather than 26 plus injury time.
He also made one interception, the same as Rolfes, and only one less than Emre Can the player who started ahead of him managed all game.
Bender also had one shot on target which was blocked, and gave away one foul during his cameo.
An all-action display even if he could not stop his side losing 4-2, but it was clear to see why the interest of Arsenal fans had been peaked.
Here is a look at some of the comments which caused his name to trend in London:
