Other Premier League sides will have serious cause for concern when facing this duo.
It only took 11 minutes for them to combine for an Arsenal goal but in that move alone there seems to be a good understanding between Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud as the Gunners opened the scoring against Sunderland at the weekend.
Giroud has shown some promising signs in the early part of the season, having found the net in each of Arsenal’s four Premier League games this season, yet this new combination with Arsenal's record signing will only seem to add to the chances the Frenchman will have in front of goal.
Ozil had been dubbed the assist king during his time at Real Madrid, and the last thing opposition defences needed was a man who knows how to lay it on a plate for someone in deadly form.
Given that Ozil wasn’t 100% for this game, it is scary to think how fruitful this partnership could be, but for Arsenal fans the excitement of seeing what they can produce in their next match.
Though it is early days, the understanding seemed to be there, it seemed that when Ozil was occupying the left channel, Giroud had taken up his position on the shoulder of the central defender in anticipation of a ball from Ozil.
How good can they be?
Well the Premier League has seen a few partnerships with an advanced midfielder and a striker over the years. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres had a successful couple of years playing together at Liverpool. Have Arsenal had a partnership like this before? Emmanuel Adebayor and Cesc Fabregas took up similar roles, though the former doesn’t have the apparent finesse that Giroud possesses.
The question is, how good they can be? It’s a scary prospect, especially if Giroud continues this good form in front of goal, which also helped Montpellier to a Ligue 1 title before his move to Arsenal in 2011.
If they’re both fit, and start most games for Arsenal, they’re could form the most formidable duo in the Premier League.
