Christian Eriksen debut: Key stats and Twitter reaction from Tottenham fans

Tottenham signing Christian Eriksen made his debut for the club after his summer move, and he already has fans buzzing.

Tottenham may have allowed Gareth Bale to leave the club, but in the shape of several highly rated replacements there is every reason for fans to feel positive.

One such player who has already stoked the imaginations of the fanbase is Christian Eriksen, signed for a potential bargain price of £11.5 million.

The Danish international playmaker had already begun the season with Ajax in sensation form, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

Eriksen has clearly transferred that to Tottenham, creating a goal for Gylfi Sigurdsson on his debut in a 2-0 home win over Norwich City; a fixture Spurs have failed to win over the past two seasons.

The 21-year-old played 71 minutes in the victory, having three shots on goal himself, one of which was on target. Eriksen's one effort from inside the area was on target, while two efforts from outside the 18-yard line were a blocked free-kick with the other from open play well wide.

Eriksen's assist was one of three key passes he made; with only Moussa Dembele laying on more with five.

He touched the ball 71 times, one for each minute on the pitch, 26 times more than teammate Gylfi Sigurdsson who played eight minutes longer - but did net twice.

Eriksen too made one tackle and one interception - making 51 successful passes at a completion rate of 90.2 per cent.

The Dane made just two of those passes in his own defensive third, completing all 22 out of 22 passes he attempted in the middle third of the pitch.

The player who made the most passes to Eriksen was Dembele (12), while Eriksen played in Paulinho more times than any other teammate (12 times), followed by Kyle Walker (8).

There was one key area for Eriksen to work on in training, the youngster made seven crosses into the box, but not one found a teammate, with three coming in from the right and four from the left.

But as we earlier mentioned his debut had fans raving about him; here are a selection from Twitter... (and they weren't the only ones, check out how Liverpool fans had a mini-meltdown)
