Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League table and they won't want to give the position up easily. Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City will all be fighting to get it back.
I know it’s early but as a fan - looking at the top of the table and seeing Arsenal there are what dreams are made of.
They haven’t been at the top since December 2010, so you can’t blame me for getting a bit carried away. And my question is can they be there at the top after game 38 in May?
It definitely won’t be easy - that's an understatement - and with the strength of the teams around them it will be a great achievement to do it. My feeling is that if Arsenal can stay injury free and manager Arsene Wenger is able to put his best eleven on the field for the majority of the games then it is more than possible.
Obviously this is a lot to ask and the worrying lack of depth in the squad is a problem - particularly in the striking department, every team that wins the league title has a squad capable of dealing with injuries. Up front is a clear worry if Giroud gets injured.
It is often the case with Arsenal that their first eleven is capable of beating anyone their downfall, however is injuries and suspensions, in previous years it has been the defence.
Olivier Giroud is doubtful for the trip to Marseille in Wednesday and there are not many striking options for Wenger to play with, winger Theo Walcott is the obvious choice but he has had a slow start to the season.
Since last winning the league in the 2003/04 season Arsenal have had many opportunities to win a league title, in 07/08 they were 6 points clear of Manchester United but a terrible injury to Eduardo took the momentum out of their title push.
Two seasons later they had a chance to win the title if they put a run of wins together towards the end of the campaign but once again a combination of injuries and flat performances ended their chances.
I think the key thing is that if Arsenal are within touching distance in January, then recruiting the right players could propel the team towards a title. Wenger has already stated that he was willing to bring in 1 or 2 more players; this bodes well for the next transfer window.
It is amazing that only a few weeks after the doom and gloom of the defeat to Aston Villa the team is top of the league. Incredible what a record signing can do for a club’s morale, not to mention a win over bitter rivals Spurs.
Keeping this atmosphere going will be the big key for Arsenal and with huge games against Manchester United and Liverpool on the horizon they’ve got to be top of their game, but going into them full of confidence and belief they have every chance of bringing home positive results.
What do you think, Can Arsenal win the title?
