On this day: Malouda banished and Capoue to Arsenal?

Florent Malouda

On the 14th September 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Everton.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 14th September 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 14th September 2012…

Capoue to that!

Apparently, this time last year, Arsenal were all set to finalise details of an imminent arrival for then Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue.

It was reported that Arsenal would be snapping up the French international in January in a £12 million swoop, in order to reinforce the clubs central midfield and defensive options.

Funny that, because he signed for Tottenham Hotspur just a matter of weeks ago.

Should have got Ouda there

Roberto Di Matteo had to move to deny reports of dressing room unrest at the treatment of French international Florent Malouda.

Malouda was relegated to play with the under-21 squad after a deal to move him on from the club could not be put together in time for the start of the Premier League season.

Di Matteo said of the ordeal:

‘’They [the Chelsea team] have accepted the decision that has been made by us, and they're just going to focus on their targets for this season. Over the past, there's been some expression of the player to part company, but it hasn't happened. So we've moved forward, brought in other players and they're the ones we're going to work with this season.’’

Bark bites back

Ross Barkley recently made his England debut, which will hopefully be the first of many international caps for the exciting Everton player. But a year ago today he signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a loan deal - that some might argue started his recent ascent to international football.

He scored four goals in 13 appearances for The Owls in an impressive spell which finally reignited his talent - and has seen him become one of the breakout players of the 2013-14 season.
