New quote on Arsenal target Marica: He's agreed to sign for 'a top team' says Dinamo president

Ciprian Marica has agreed a move to 'a top team' according to one of the clubs trying to sign him. Could it be Arsenal?

One of the most interesting little stories in recent weeks has been that of Romanian international striker Ciprian Marica - and the potential for his move to Arsenal.

The story has gained momentum since the close of the transfer window - with his obvious lure as a free agent causing the English press to stoke the flames of the apparent North London interest.

They have of cause also been using quotes from his agent Ioan Becali where he states:

"It is near Arsenal, we'll see this week. Marica is a very good striker, Romania's national player who has Western big football experience. It's normal to be in big clubs viewfinder, the more since remained free after he signed the contract with Schalke 04."

But the use of these quotes as representative of current affairs is slightly misleading - as the comments were actually made over a month ago.

Don’t believe me, check out our story on the news from when the quotes were actually originally floating on the netwaves below…

Arsenal 'close' to free agent forward who scored just three Bundesliga goals last season

But here is some news, there is now a genuinely fresh quote on the situation of Marica from a man in the know.

Marica has been training with Dinamo Bucharest in order to stay fit for whoever decides to snap him up on a free this summer, and their club president Ionut Negoita admits that they made a cheeky offer to bring him into the club permanently after the recent international break.

But the striker politely declined the offer to rejoin his boyhood club at the age of 27 - obviously feeling he still has much to offer a top European league.

Which it would appear is where he is going according to what Negoita said of the offer:

‘’It would have been an honour for us, even for a short period if Marica could help our project. But Marica has found a team. He'll sign with a top team, from what I hear, he will have a very good agreement.”

Marica has recently found himself also linked with Getafe in Spain but it could very well be that this once unlikely rumour could come to fruition.

Could the top club referred to be Arsenal?
