Ozil impresses on debut but Ramsey takes plaudits at Sunderland

Arsenal have won 3-1 at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland.

Arsenal made hard-work of what was a comfortable performance against Sunderland on Wearside this afternoon.

The Gunners should have put the game out of sight in the first half - with chances wasted. They did however go into the half 1-0 up thanks to current goal-machine Olivier Giroud. The French international scored once again but it acted as a mere supporting act to the assist. Mesut Ozil laid the ball on for Giroud - much to the delight of Arsenal's travelling faithful.

And Modibo Diakite of Sunderland, who seemed to want to swap shirts with the German at half-time.

But a silly challenge from Laurent Koscielny in the second half gifted Sunderland a route back into the game - and Craig Gardner did what he does best from 12 yards - giving Sunderland an equaliser.

But then it was the Aaron Ramsey show. He scored a volleyed finish and then added a second in pure Arsenal style to complete the win.

However the game could have turned on a goal disallowed from Jozy Altidore - when advantage should have been played - which left Paolo Di Canio furious.
