Real Madrid have acted swiftly to defend themselves from allegations they were behind a smear campaign directed at Mesut Ozil following his transfer to Arsenal.
Following the sale of Ozil to the Gunners, revelations appeared in the Spanish media painting the German as sex-obsessed and unprofessional, allegations which have been refuted by even the model linked to him.
Ozil's camp have been enraged, with Mustafa Ozil, his father issuing a legal threat to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez over the smears, which it was claimed were planted by the club to limit the PR disaster caused by selling the player - a decision which upset key team members at the Spanish giants.
Madrid have since published an official statement on their website, apparently out of worry regarding Ozil's father's legal threat.
It reads: "The club and the president Florentino Perez nothing have to do with the statements published in a Spanish newspaper.
"Such information that triggered the reactions of the player's father has nothing to do with the club, do not correspond to reality and are totally out of place."
There you have it, Madrid are an innocent party in all this - Apparently.
What do you think of the saga? Should a line now be drawn under it?
