Ex-Sunderland and Wolves boss receives some support for Ireland job

Martin O'Neill is still the odds on favourite to become the next Republic of Ireland manager, although former Sunderland and Wolves manager Mick McCarthy - now at Ipswich - also appears to be in the betting mix.

Despite Martin O’Neill announcing that he hasn’t been approached by the FAI yet regarding the Republic of Ireland manager vacancy, Boylesports can report that punters are still favouring him to fill the permanent role.

With Brian McDermott (20/1 from 4/1) and Chris Houghton (33/1 from 25/1) basically ruling themselves out of the job, O’Neill has been supported into the 1/6 red hot favourite from 4/9 on Thursday.

Boylesports can also report that a little bit of money is still around for former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy who is now available at 13/2 having been available at 8/1 on Thursday.

Leon Blanche, Head of Communications at Boylesports said: 'Punters continue to favour Martin O’Neill and after initially been installed at 4/6 on Wednesday morning, he is now a massive liability having been supported into 1/6'.

He added: 'We have also seen a steady flow of money for Mick McCarthy and although he is currently attached to Ipswich he is now 13/2 to return as Republic of Ireland manager'.
