Manchester City latest: Dzeko ‘one of the world’s best’ and two more injury blows

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

As Manchester City prepare to face Stoke City tomorrow, Blues manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he will be without David Silva and Gael Clichy for the match.

The French defender has a minor knock while the Spanish midfielder has a thigh strain, adding to City’s injury woes with Vincent Kompany, Micah Richards and Martin Demichelis already absent.

Although there was better news regarding the Belgian, with Pellegrini revealing he is nearing match fitness.

Kompany is okay, but I think it is a big risk for him to play three matches in one week,” the City boss said.

He needs two or three more days to be 100 per cent.”

In other team news, Stoke could be without Glenn Whelan, although Charlie Adam is likely to feature despite withdrawing from the Scotland squad last week.

As the two sides prepare to go head-to-head, Stoke ‘keeper Asmir Begovic has hailed Edin Dzeko as one of the best strikers in world football.

Speaking to the Potters’ official website, the Bosnian stopper said, “In my opinion he is one of the three best number nines in the world along with Falcao and Robert Lewandowski; so he is somebody that we have certainly got to keep our eye on during the game.”

Having been praised by Pellegrini prior to the new season, Dzeko has seen his early efforts slightly overshadowed by Alvaro Negredo’s goal-scoring exploits from the bench. And the Manchester Evening News has published a piece on the Spaniard’s hopes of seeing off competition for a starting birth for both his club and his country.

Despite Dzeko’s outstanding showing against Newcastle United and cracking goal against Cardiff City, he has to up his performances if he wishes to keep the prolific Spaniard behind him in the pecking order.
