Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been revealing how the club have given captain Steven Gerrard a specific training programme in order to keep him in peak physical condition.

Gerrard has played every game of Liverpool’s season so far and Rodgers gave an insight into how Gerrard recovers.

Rodgers said: “One of the biggest things in our method of work is the recovery method. Stevie for example plays on the Saturday, recovers on the Sunday doing pulls, stretch and massage, on the Tuesday recovers further with a light jog.”

Swansea City striker Michu has tipped former teammate Iago Aspas to have a positive season at Liverpool. Michu told the Swansea City club website: “I think he’s really good and is going to have a good season. I want to play against him.

Former striker Michael Owen has said he will always be a Liverpool fan at heart in an interview with the Liverpool Echo, and defended the unpopular move of signing for Manchester United.

“As a player you only have one career. I have always signed for the best team possible who was in for me at that time.

Toure said: “I really want to do as well as I can for the club and for the fans as well because they are great.”

Daniel Sturridge and Simon Mignolet are in contention for the Premier League’s player of the month award, whilst Brendan Rodgers is nominated for the manager of the month award for August.
