Manchester United morning news: Defender wants apology; Cleverley on the future

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United, including Phil Jones's anger and Tom Cleverley's hopes.

Following claims from Stuart Pearce that Manchester United’s Phil Jones was among a group of players who were apathetic towards England’s under-21s, the young defender has reportedly demanded a written apology from his former international coach.

The Telegraph reports that Jones has contacted the FA to register his disapproval regarding the comments, and expects an apology from Pearce in due course.

Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bore the brunt of the criticism during Pearce’s unexpected rant; this despite Jones needing time to recover from an injury that is said to have been brought to the attention of Pearce in good time.

From one United youngster to another, with the Mirror publishing quotes from Tom Cleverley about his hunger for future success.

Speaking of his first league winner’s medal and the celebrations after he said, “It was a very special day, which I’ll never forget, but I don’t just want that to happen once, I want it to happen many times. We’ve got that taste now and it makes us even hungrier.”

With new addition Marouane Fellaini now competing for a midfield birth alongside Michael Carrick, it will be interesting to see how much game-time Cleverley gets in the coming months.
