Manchester City latest: Stoke ‘keeper on City challenge; Rodwell remains patient

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

As Manchester City prepare to face Stoke City this weekend, the Potters’ goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has been speaking about the game.

It’s going to be as tough a test as you are going to get this year,” he told The Sentinel, “but we are playing some good stuff this year and have got some good results.

We are also at home so we are really looking forward to it.”

Given their fine recent form, Mark Hughes’s new side will hope to get the better of his old one; something that is easier said than done.

The Daily Mail has a story about City’s preparations for their upcoming matches, publishing a series of photos of the players at their Carrington training ground.

On what is clearly a quiet news day, the pictures are accompanied by quotes from Aleksandar Kolarov talking about the new Champions League campaign, and his belief that manager Manuel Pellegrini can steer the Blues into the latter stages of Europe.

And finally, Jack Rodwell has told City’s website that he will be patient in his pursuit of first-team opportunities.

The former Everton player hasn’t had the best times since his move to the Etihad, but he is a player of considerable promise – something Spanish newspaper Sport acknowledged when they included him in their list of the top 50 young players in Europe.

While that will no doubt generate considerable debate, Rodwell still has time to live up to his potential…should he get the opportunity.

I’m fit, I’ve been training hard and I’m feeling great,” he said, “but I’ll just have to be patient and wait for my chance which I’m sure will come along soon.”

Given the strength in depth at the Etihad, he is going to have to do something very special to earn a starting spot.
